The program helps to protect home appliances from power surges that could travel through the electric meter. Customers who enroll also receive a $5,000 limited manufacturer’s warranty per covered appliance, per occurrence, if the surge protector fails to properly perform.
SurgeShield only provides coverage for appliances. Use plug-in surge suppressors for added protection from a power surge that could enter the home via a means other than the electrical box or for sensitive electronics. Electronics Surge Protection covers sensitive electronics.
Nothing protects against a direct lightning strike, but quality surge protection equipment helps to block indirect strikes, which has been documented to cause damage. The SurgeShield program helps to protect the home, when lightning strikes pass through the transformer and meter.
Once the SurgeShield device is installed at your meter, your home appliances will have protection from power surges through the electric meter, and you will be entitled to the limited manufacturer’s warranty for power surge damages caused by a failure of the device to perform properly.
You may cancel your enrollment by calling our Customer Service department at 833-437-5466. If you decide to cancel your enrollment into the SurgeShield program within seven (7) days of the installation of the device, you will receive a full refund of any previously paid monthly Program fee. You may also cancel service at any time with 30 days advance written notice to FPL Home. See your Terms & Conditions for more detailed information.

As part of the claims process, the customer can select a licensed technician of their choice to fill out the form and notate the cause of the damage, specifically whether it was caused by a surge. Please also check the status of the SurgeShield device as explained in more detail in the SurgeShield claims cover letter.
Under the terms of the SurgeShield limited manufacturer’s warranty, the manufacturer will, at its sole discretion, either reimburse you (1) the current market value (depreciated value) of the damaged appliance at the time of damage, which is determined by the original retail price and age of the appliance immediately before the power surge damage occurred, (2) the reasonable actual repair costs, or (3) the reasonable estimated cost of repair.
Perform a visual check of your SurgeShield® device to verify if it is functioning properly after the incident. Note the device lights are easier to see at night when there is no direct sunlight. Checking the device to ensure the lights are ON indicates the device is functioning properly. For assistance locating the device light, please visit www.fplhome.com/SurgeDevice.
